The Tawny Hotel in Staffordshire was Jon’s chosen location to drop down on one knee and propose to his girlfriend Anu.
The Tawny Hotel is a stunning venue; it shares its grounds with The Foxtail Barns Wedding Venue, part of the Best Day Ever Wedding Venues portfolio. The gardens/grounds are immense, with five lakes within the 70-acre estate, featuring mature woodlands and follies to explore.
After Jon booked me we had numerous email communications in preparation for the moment. I knew that Jon wanted to propose near the swimming pool around lunchtime, which would be a great setting and the light would be perfect too. I scouted the proposal location and gardens the day before as it’s always good to be prepared; engagement proposals don’t actually take long, seconds in fact – not something you want to document incorrectly.
Everything looked perfect! Jon had confirmed his arrival time, shared a picture of himself and Anu with me to ID them etc, Friday was the day and the sun was shining!
Surprise Engagement Proposal at The Tawny Hotel in Staffordshire
On the day, Jon told me that he would bring Anu to the location around 2:20pm to propose, so I was in position at 2pm, out of sight but near enough for Jon to give me the nod – I was now feeling so excited for them, especially to be the one to capture their special moment.
It was go time! I received a text from Jon to say they were heading down; I waited until I could see them and slowly moved up the stairs to let Jon know I was ready. Thankfully Anu wasn’t aware of my presence as Jon dropped to one knee and asked her for her hand in marriage. It was lovely, I could hear cheering from the nearby outdoor pool too!! The hug and tears from Anu was a clear indicator she said YES! I took a few shots from afar, letting them both enjoy the moment.
The Tawny Hotel Gardens for a Couples Photography Session
After giving Jon & Anu plenty of time to absorb the moment I approached them and introduced myself, and we headed off into the beautiful Tawny Hotel gardens to start their engagement photography session. From scouting the grounds beforehand I had planned a circular route, taking in all the most appealing spots. I had some great locations to work with and the light was looking perfect too! We started off with some pics crossing the little bridge overlooking the garden, then a short walk to take in the views from across the lake, looking back at the hotel. As we ventured back towards the Tawny I photographed J&A naturally enjoying each other’s company. I thought that it might be good to have a break to warm up from the cold weather, so we headed inside the stunning hotel restaurant. We relaxed over a drink, chatting about how they met and I grabbed a few more pictures, making the most of the artsy interior. I could see after getting back outside that the sun was starting dip behind the horizon so we finished off with some atmospheric images showing the sky and any venue lighting on show.
Huge congratulations to Jon & Anu! Thank you Jon for asking me to be involved, it genuinely was a pleasure 🙂 Good luck with all the planning ahead!
